Hello, this is Lukas @lukas.birk sharing images from the Myanmar Photo Archive. Today I want to show you a few images highlighting the role photography played in the 1950s and 60s as a way to create and share memories with friends and family. Not unlike in the rest of the world, photography became more accessible during this time for people in Myanmar. Starting from the 1950s, having your photo taken in a photo studio was much more the norm than a decade prior. Several hundred photos in the archive from this period seem to follow the same formula – studio photos primarily of girls that they sent to their friends with little messages scribbled on the back.
