Mingalaba from Lukas @lukas.birk on the last day of sharing images from my Myanmar Photo Archive. This image, as the others I will show you today, is one of my favorites. It is a hand-colored image from the 50s with exquisite, elegant details. What I wanted to impart this week was the diverse range of the archive, incorporating photos of Burmese daily life, religious ceremonies, protest imagery, advertisements and so on – the collective photographic consciousness of Myanmar during its closed off decades. It is only by finally having access to and seeing a collection of images from daily life that we can begin to understand the culture that has been inaccessible to us and shrouded in mystery for such a long time.
